The Word

Josh March 13th, 2006

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word…

In this passage we read words reminiscent of the beginning of God’s Word. In this first book [Genesis] of Holy Scripture we read, “In the beginning, God…” Firstly, those who wish to diminish the absolute truth concerning God’s sovereignty over all details and facets of life, would do well to let this passage register in their thoughts. “In the beginning” Who? “In the beginning…” GOD! That’s Who. Which means thate before the “beginning” there was One Who existed and was/is eternal. It’s telling how the first four words in Scripture set the precedent of God’s immutability and sovereignty for all words following thereafter.

In the following days I will be studying the gospel of John and, on a summarized level, comment on God’s precious Word. What a privilege it is to have the opportunity and availability to read the very Words of He Who existed before the “beginning”.

Let us meditate on the Almighty’s greatness and the fact that before there was history, there was His presence and existence throughout all eternity. Fathom that!

My Bud Jon’s Awesome SUV

Josh March 6th, 2006

This is one of my best buds, Jon. He has an awesome SUV. This post is all about my bud Jon and his awesome SUV.

This is my bud Jon’s awesome SUV. It is the coolest “pimped-out” ride on the highway today (maybe even the interstate!).

His stylish gearshift has customized (not factory) black electrical tape, to give it that subtly “rough” look…so as to not be confused with the more feminine SUVs…cuz his is awesome.

Speaking of masculine, my bud Jon’s awesome SUV is a 4 wheel drive monster. Not even Chuck Norris stands a chance against my bud Jon and his awesome SUV.

These are my bud Jon’s wheels and tires. They are 20s. You know, those sweet rims that people are getting chased down and murdered over. He has one of the rarest set of 20s around. They are sweet…and by sweet, I mean awesome.

While coasting along in his awesome SUV with his hardcore 20s, my bud Jon pretends to “bump” while listening to his non-functioning stereo. Because his ride is so “pimped-out” and sweet, no one even notices that he doesn’t have a working system. It’s because his ride is so awesome, that people don’t notice.

While many a thugz, Gs, and gangstas go with leather, leopard, or lizard skin, my bud Jon goes for the “Torn” look. This method of seat-covering can rarely be duplicated, so kids, don’t try this at home. Because of the depths of awesomeness my bud Jon’s SUV possesses, only he can accomplish such a fabulous look with such a cool seatcover.

My bud Jon uses long thin strips of wood for the decor of his roof-liner of his awesome SUV. Man, I wish my ride was this “pimpin’” and tricked-out, dawg.

The sweet shirt my bud Jon’s wearing in this picture is the exact same shirt he wore the last time he visited me…except then he had a beard. Because of his awesome SUV, he apparently doesn’t have to change clothes, either. My bud Jon is cool and has an awesome SUV.

Great Things He Has Done

Josh March 5th, 2006

O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.

Many times in our self-saturated culture, even within the confines of Christ’s Church, the focus of some things must be constantly re-centered. We read words descriptive of our Sovereign such as faithful and sure, and automatically apply them to what is our definition of good. While no doubt we believe that all God ordains will be to our betterment, I think we many times neglect to acknowledge that God’s faithfulness is not for us, but His own glory…to which end we were created. His “plans formed of old” encompass not only salvation, good-health, and joy, but also damnation, calamities, and strife. None of these are without purpose. God is “faithful and sure” in all that He executes. His gospel is always effective, whether it be to the redemption of His creature, or the hardening of its heart.

This Lord’s Day let us praise Him, knowing that He is truly good by His definition; not our own. Because we believe that He is truly good, let us then joyfully and without reserve acknowledge that all He brings to pass is right, just and holy. There is no blame of unrighteousness to be affixed His way, for all He does is good. Knowing this, may we be mindful of His mercies so freely given to an undeserving people who, at one time, hated Him and were, by nature, children of wrath. Let us humble ourselves in figurative sackcloth and ashes, praising His grace given to us merely by the good pleasure of His will.

O God! Thank you for not passing over me, but in Your mercy granting me repentance!
