An Apology

Josh November 13th, 2007

I want to apologize to any of my readers and friends who had to witness the fiasco last week that took place primarily in the comment section of this blog. Sometime back I had posted a sincere prayer of my own, that I thought might also have some devotional benefit. A bit after I had posted this prayer a person visited my blog and proceeded to make light of it.

First, allusion was made to my usage of Thees and Thous, etc.–as if that were somehow wrong. Next, the commenter intimated that I was still living under the Law and not enough in the Holy Spirit. All this kept going until the commenter finally just dropped the P-bomb and called me a Pharisee. It is at such a point I should have simply stopped the dialogue. But I didn’t. Instead, I took the bait and allowed said commenter to keep drawing me back in. Thus, followed the aforementioned fiasco that polluted my blog with me casting pearls before swine, and my commenter responding with incoherent logic and accusations.

So, I apologize to you, my readers, for playing the part of the fool. I do not apologize for loving God’s Law. I do not apologize for asserting that His Ten Commandments are still binding even now. The Law is not a boogey man. But I do apologize for wasting my time (and yours) with all the previous back and forth. The original commenter has repeatedly returned to my blog and spread various comments accusing me of hating him, being a Pharisee, so on so forth. Unless he wants to comment and respond to my thoughts about God’s Law, theology, etc. with calmness, coherency, and Biblical exposition, I will delete his comments.

Thus far, the extent of his interaction has been merely assertions of him being right, and me being wrong…but all without any demonstration of how my understanding of various subjects is erroneous.

(name removed by admin),

I sincerely regret that you visited my blog and got the impression you did from what you read. I am sorrowful that you see a devotion to God’s Moral Law as something that is inherently evil, thus feeling the need to insult those who would post about such things on their personal blogs. Your previous charges that I “hate” you, or that I am “investigating” you are nothing but fiction. Unfortunately it calls into question both my reputation and integrity. Therefore, I cannot allow such unwarranted accusations to take up space here.

I am not angry with you. I don’t hate you. However, I will no longer have any interaction with you here, unless you decide to comment and approach things with a charitable attitude and substantiated assertions.

Josh I suggest you remove everything I have said, including this post. Also you comments on me, otherwise that would not be fair! I am sure you can see that.

One day maybe I will be able to explain myself without causing offense.

“Without Me you can do nothing”

Which is the main reason for holyfear.net
    ( fear = respect for me )

Josh, if you have a blog and express your views, people will comment.

    The Lord bless you.

(name removed by admin), I don’t respond well to people who mock me’s suggestions as to what I should do on MY blog. However, your comment is noted.

I’ve left the whole ensuing debacle and your comments laid bare to the public so as to illustrate what I believe to be a deficiency in Christ’s Church today:

A misunderstanding of God’s Law and it’s application to the Christian. Your antinomianism, and others’ like yours, is a stench to the nostrils of God. This should serve as a good teaching lesson for some readers.

    Josh,

You rock. Just keep telling the truth. That’s the whole job. :)

    Hi Joshua,

I’m sorry that you’ve had to go through such experiences as of late. You did not deserve that. But, fortunately, there’s a lesson that I (and, I’m sure, your other visitors as well) can glean from all that fiasco last week, so that it does not actually go to waste. It reminds me and affirms what the Bible tells us all along when it exhorts to us:

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” (Matthew 7:6)

That’s a valuable lesson that would be good for me to ever be mindful of… If we are casting pearls before swine, we are wasting our time showing or offering something very helpful or valuable to someone who does not understand or appreciate it.

I’m also reminded of the wisdom and truth of Proverbs 29:9 that again informs us:

“If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.”

And since recently I’ve also had to go through a circumstance not unlike yours where someone has bear a false witness, your experience reminds me that I need to keep in mind and remind myself of this Proverbs wisdom for future references:

“Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.” (Proverbs 26:4)

Thank you for your example, Josh, in how you handle and respond to situations that’s testing of one’s patience. May the Lord bless you.

    Josh,

If every man praises you, something is wrong. You have a healthy, and proper, and biblical understanding of the Law and of the Gospel. This is not popular.

Do not be discouraged my friend. A servant is not greater than his Master.

    Your friend,
    jer
